This vintage hand carved shell cameo portrait of a right-facing lady dates to the 1930s and can be worn as either a brooch or a pendant.
Signed Whiteco in block capital letters on the pin. In their trademark filing for this mark in 1942, the White Manufacturing Company of Attleboro, MA stated that the mark had been in use since 1928. The brooch has a modern (1920s or late) safety clasp and the pin extends slightly beyond the frame of the setting, suggesting 1920's - early 30s; facial features and the style of the setting also match this era.
The setting looks and feels like gold filled pieces of the era, and White Co pieces of the time tend to be 1/20 12k gold filled. The actual metal content of this piece has not been confirmed. The markings indicating that content may be obscured by tarnish or patina. Very good vintage condition, details in photos. 1 3/8" x 1"
